Don’t Tell Tom is a large building. The front room is huge, with a great high roof. There’s a small cute room up the front with a half-height door. Then there’s a medium room before passing through to the, again large, outside area. A draw-back of a large premisis like this is that it doesn’t have that cosy nook feel.
This strangely named place is also a music venue. It used to be called Big House. A friend of mine who has two young kids suggested we come here after spying a sand pit and play area for kids out the back. We weren’t the only ones to have that idea today.
We kicked back near the sand pit. White satin is tied around veranda posts, flapping around lazily. Kids run about happily and aren’t annoying because they’ve got something to do.
We ordered a couple of lattes and eggs Florentine with extras of beans and hash browns. Kids meals are on the menu too. The lattes come in these larger than normal ribbed glasses, and they’re nice and hot. The coffee has a pleasant smooth flavour, perfect for a latte. The eggs Florentine comes in a pile: egg upon spinach upon muffin. The beans extra was plentiful, and came in a tomatoey mix. The hash browns are crisp, tasty and herby.
I found the service to be very good, warm smiles from the waitress. Water is brought out without needing to ask.
